We will discuss your concerns, background information, as well as what goals you have for therapy.
I have clients fill out a form beforehand so I can gather as much information as possible so that I can put together a plan of how to best get you to your goals.
If the therapy is for an adolescent, we would start the appointment altogether to go over some information, then I meet with the parent(s) alone, and then with the adolescent alone.
I do this in order to get information from everyone as well as respect privacy.

A standard psychology session is 50 minutes, with 10 minutes left for case notes and other administrative activities.
The first appointment for an adolescent client is 75 minutes, in order to allow for enough time for everyone involved.

Everyone is different!
Some clients come for a session or two and find that is all they needed to meet their needs. However, most clients find they need several sessions in order to explore all the relevant content, gain a better understanding, and increase their feelings of self compassion and confidence.

At the beginning of therapy, developing the relationship between the client and the therapist, as well as exploring information and processing it together is important. Appointments that are regular, about every 1-2 weeks, typically see greater progress.
As therapy advances, appointments become more spaced out, as we work to integrate what we have been working on within day-to-day life.
For some clients, when mental health needs are less pressing, appointments that are monthly or every few months, to serve to check-in are a good fit.
Throughout therapy, we will regularly check in in terms of goals and meeting frequency.

All information shared by clients is kept in confidence and not shared with anyone else. However, all psychologists are bound by certain exceptions, such as when the information is regarding an active threat to harm self or another person.
We will discuss this topic and any questions you may have in the first session.
